One Jumper Two Ways...

October 27th

I picked this cream chunky open knit jumper up in September in anticipation for Autumn..it has certainly come in handy for the brisk days we've been having.  Here are a couple of the ways I've been wearing it.

1.  45 rpm spindle charm-etsy, silver ball chain-Tiffany&Co. headphone charm & ball chain-HobLob
2.  jumper-forever 21,  polka dot scarf & floral skirt-h&m 3.  black wedge MIA booties-zappos 4.  opaque tights-target

I wear a lot of  shorts and skirts with opaque tights during Autumn and a heavier chunky knit helps to balance the outfit out.  I paired the same cream jumper with a floral skirt from H&M and a pair of black corduroy shorts from Kohls.  I picked up the shorts in three different colours as they were on sale for only $4.  I picked up black, brown and a deep, rich teal which goes really nice with black tights and the cream jumper which I also got on sale!  My camel boots are from Wet Seal and surprisingly they are very comfy, sturdy and fairly warm.

1.  infinity scarf-nordstrom, beaded necklace-thrifted, black corduroy shorts-kohls, camel riding boots-wet seal
2.  rings-icing

I hope everyone has a lovely week and enjoys what is left of the beautiful Autumn weather!

Autumn Love

We take an Autumn walk in woods that truly are lovely, dark and deep...

Autumn is my absolute favorite time year.
Every year Matt takes me on an autumn
adventure in the woods close to home or
sometimes far away.

This year we stayed close to home.

Perfect cool temperatures as the leaves swayed in the breeze.  One, two, three would drop and dance all the way down...settling in a patch of
sun on the cold autumn ground.

Autumn is love.

Nail Polish Strips-RIGHTY-O!

Nails Done Easy

Do you ever see something in the store and really want to buy it but you're just not certain that there is anyway on earth that it will 'deliver'.  Yes? Well, that was the case here with Sally Hansen Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips. But I have to share how pleasantly surprised I was by the better than expected results I received!   Every time I was in CVS I would pick up a box of these little gems, read the microscopic writing on the back then set them back on the shelf.  I'd say to myself, "They can't possibly work" and "they are $10 a box" or "I have plenty of nail varnish at home" along with "stop being so frivolous with your funds" and the most obvious question "why am I standing here talking to myself in the middle of the store?"  And off I'd be.

December 2011 rolled around and Matt's sister Tanya was visiting from Washington State...she is an avid collector of the newest, latest and the greatest things.  I do adore her for that.  She, like myself, does not have little ones to suck all of your earnings so readily out of your satchel, so she is forever purchasing goodies and giving reviews.  As we chatted over some hot tea our talk quickly turned to nail colours.  I believe mine at the time was 8 fingers of chipped black and my ring finger on each hand a chipping charcoal. She proudly displayed her impeccable manicure, waving 10 perfectly polished (or so I thought) fingers with tiny dots in a stunning grey and cream combo.  I could have sworn I heard trumpets sounding and doves flying off to the distance.  I quickly set my cuppa down, looked down at my 'mess' and began to slowly turn my fingers in towards my palms as I slid my hands into the pockets of my jumper. Smiling a shameful smile... all the while thinking to myself  'epic nail fail Skaggs..epic.fail'

I asked her when she'd had her nails done and at what salon because this nail technician was nothing short of an artist!  Then she said it "oh these, this isn't paint..it's those Sally Hansen Colour Stickers"
I was almost sold, but I had questions!  Questions I wanted answered and I wanted them answered NOW!
-How long do they last?
-Are they hard to apply?
-Ok, I had two questions, but still, I wanted ANSWERS!

"They say on the box they last up to 10 days" Tanya replied, as she wiggled her fingers in front of my face, "but I always get about 15 days or more...I'm actually tired of the colour or design way before they come off." Now she was just bragging.  So I asked "They're probably really hard to put on, no?"  She turned her palms to the sky, curled her fingers around and lazily shrugged her shoulders as she looked at her 10 tiny perfections, "no..fairly easy...I had the first set on in less than 20 minutes, Oh and NO dry time!"  I was green with envy..I felt like a goon, all of that time wasted sitting around waving my hands like a mad woman, scooting various items around on the table top with my palms to get just the right angle to be able to pick it up.  And here she was going about her daily business just moments after getting 10 fabulous nails!  She must have seen the sadness in my eyes because she quickly reached into her bag and said "here, I've got two boxes of this teal colour because they were 75% off, so I scooped them all up...try these."  And here came that light, ya know, the same one that was shining through the hole in the roof at Sephora?*  Yeah, that one.  *See NARS blog post if you are confused here.

I'd like to say that I immediately opened the box, put them one, tried them out...but no. I took them home, put them in my nail varnish box and there they set, for months.  I came across them a few months back and just like Tanya said they were quick and easy to apply (you want to make sure your nail beds are swiped with some remover so that there is no oil or lotion on them) but that was really the only prep.  They stayed on through dog washings, light dish washing (we have a dishwasher and I'm it's biggest fan!) my daily typing at work and at home, constant hand washing and many other daily things.  The first set I kept on for about 12 days and honestly they still looked good, I just grew tired of the colour.

Expect to pay about $10 a box but most of the time you will find them 'buy one get one 50% off' at CVS and often times they will put the out of season colours on clearance for 75% off.  I suggest stocking up, I mean we all know summer is bound to roll around again.

They come in solids and patterns.
You get 16 nail polish strips in a box and you also get a mini nail file/buffer, a cuticle push and instructions

This is the set I just removed - 14 days out!

Outfit built from laziness

October 24th, 2012

Lazy morning....not much brain activity moving around at 6 a.m.  so the old standby striped long sleeve, shirt and floral polka dot scarf from forever 21, skinnies from Wet Seal, Mia Brisk Wedge Booties in camel from Zappos and of course my Tiffany ball chain with 45 RPM spindle from Etsy, should get the job done!  I mean, sitting at my desk all day only requires me to be about 15% fashionable ....the other 75% is merely company policy "presentable" just in case the public and/or sales reps pop in.

Nars - Larger Than Life Eyeliner

Day 1 - Research:

Forever on the hunt for the perfect eyeliner, I was more than skeptical when I read a review stating 'budgeproof' -- Uh huh..surrrre... I've heard that one before!  As I read the entire review I felt like the words were popping out at me, trying to lure my $23 right out of my wallet....Sitting at my desk adjectives seemed to be swirling above my head in slow motion spiral "smudgeproof", "rich", "creamy", "next level".  NEXT LEVEL?!?  what tha?  That term is something I reserve for  trying to describe what ZEF is:
                                                                              Some 'Next Level Shit'

At any rate I could tell this was going to require a trip to Sephora to do a hands on experiment to see if there was any validity to these claims!

Day 2 - Execute experiment on 'budgeproof' eyeliner and possibly purchase

Walking into Sephora that Thursday I am more than a little cynical as I've tried about a bazillion no smudge, 12 hour, waterproof, end all, be all eyeliners.  I  walk over and find the display but much to my dismay the slot for the colour that I am wanting is empty.  Lucky for me though, Ellie, a bubbly, smallish girl with bright eyes and hair like Amy Winehouse, ran to the back straight away and scooped me up a Via Veneto with the quickness!  I searched around for the tester while she was gone and ran the tip across the back of my hand.  I immediately took my index finger and rubbed it over the top of the rich, black line....it smeared.  I cried a little inside.  Then I realized that this is one of those times that my manfriend is always talking about.  You see, I am a 'now girl' now now NOW! I want results, action, items NOW!  It occurred to me that I should maybe apply it, wait a few moments, let it 'set' and THEN try the anti-smudge test.   So I did and-voilĂ !  It did.not.budge!  It was as if a gaping hole opened up in the roof of Sephora and a warm, glowing light was beaming down on me right there in the store!  I was elated.

I took my wares to the register and checked out happily.  Thanking Ellie for the haste she'd made in retrieving this glorious life enhancer from the depths of the Sephora vault for me.  I drove home blissfully until I saw a 250 pound teenage girl on a moped stuffed into a bright yellow track suit that read "CANTALOUP" across her bum!  I cried a little more inside.

Day 3 -  Operation 'BUDGEPROOF' - Red Team GO!

I awoke a little earlier on Friday excited to apply my makeup and really see this liner in action.
Went on smooth, no lag on the water line, looked rich, didn't irritate my eyes...but the real test was yet to come.  Normally by 9 a.m. I'm taking a Q-tip and running it under my lower lashes to clean up any excess from my 7 a.m. application.  Not this time!  I anxiously awaited my workmate Rachel to  arrive at work so I could blather on at her about my $23 purchase the night before.  I knew that she would appreciate and actually understand my slightly mad ramblings about the NARS eyeliner.. as she was the prestige manager at Ulta before I  recruited her to come and apply for a position at my office.  She arrived!  I ran to her office barely letting her get her parka off and began my chatter...eyeliner in hand I wrote several letters, numbers, symbols across my hand and waited a few moments then I rubbed until my hand was red and like magic it stayed put!  The NARS eyeliner proved to in fact  "BUDGEPROOF".  I grinned, pointed and hopped up and down a tad bit even made some strange happy girly squeaky sound....before she politely asked me to exit her office.

I headed back to my office and immediately grabbed my pocket mirror...yep, it was still on, the line was thin and going strong. I was satisfied.  Ahhhh, commence to drinking tea and watching YouTube videos, another good day at the office!

Hello

Hi welcome to my blog! I've wanted to start a blog for the past few years but didn't know what I wanted to blog about..(Can I type BLOG one more time?) BLOG! Then it hit me after reading another bloggers 'about me' section. They had posted how they didn't have any hobbies and blogging was their hobby. I realized in that moment that blogging was going to bring a lot of my hobbies together, all under one beautiful digital canopy! I am a hobby photographer, shooting whatever fancies me, but I had nothing to do with the photos except stick them up on Facebook. Blogging will allow me to utilize my photography skills and let me blather on for days about all of the random things that I fall in love with. So grab yourself a cuppa or a stiff drink, a comfy seat and have a looksie! And please read and 'take' my blog as if you are sitting and talking to your old friend who is just a tad bit 'off', has a wee bit of a twisted sense of humour...you know, the one who is always making you almost choke to death on your drink? Read my blog with that state of mind, because I don't take life to seriously, I love to laugh as often as possible!

Countless Colourful Things is a blog about just that'Many Different Things'  The main purpose of this blog is to keep a journal of sorts on all of the things that I enjoy.  Ranging from fashion to photography, music to recipes, random finds and just happy little inspirations from my everyday life.  Hopefully you'll have a bit of a laugh along the way, learn something or be inspired to try something new.
